New York Society for Ethical Culture and CreArtBox present a new edition of the CreArt Music Series, featuring guest artist JP Jofre.
(New York City) – On Thursday, October 26th, the award-winning multidisciplinary music ensemble CreArtBox, led by Guillermo Laporta and Josefina Urraca, will perform at the New York Society for Ethical Culture with guest artist JP Jofre.
In this performance, CreArtBox will present a well-balanced program of new and classical music, offering baroque by C.P. Telemann, French impressionism by Florent Schmitt, American 20/21th Century by David Lang and John Cage, Russian romanticism by Sergei Rachmaninoff, a world premiere by Guillermo Laporta, and Argentinian contemporary tango by JP Jofre.
The series is designed to reach new audiences by combining classical chamber music with new pieces by contemporary composers, such as those written by New York-based ensembles and soloists, like electric violinist, Todd Reynolds, composer and video artist Luke DuBois, and the Le Train Bleu Ensemble. All the performances will incorporate theatrical and multimedia elements with a set, projection, and lights designed by Guillermo Laporta.
JP Jofre, Guest Artist
Native from San Juan, Argentina, “J.P.” Jofre is an award winning bandoneon player and composer. Mr. Jofre has been repeatedly highlighted by the New York Times and praised as one of today’s leading artists by Great Performers at Lincoln Center. A recipient of the National Prize of the Arts grant in Argentina, Mr. Jofre has taken his form of contemporary tango to some of the most important venues in Asia, Europe, America, and the Caribbean as soloist and composer. He has collaborated with many famous musicians in a wide range of musical styles, including Paquito D’Rivera, Kathryn Stott, Symphony Silicon Valley, Santa Rosa Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Argentina, San Antonio Symphony Philippe Quint, Fernando Otero, Dallas Symphony, and Fred Sturm among others.
About CreArtBox, Ensemble in Residence
CreArtBox’s core ensemble is composed of flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and piano instrumentalists. However, it also holds a flexible roster of over twenty NYC-based soloists, composers, choreographers, designers, painters, and actors from different ensembles, such as the New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Carnegie Hall ACJW Ensemble, and BBC Orchestra.
The group has received numerous distinctions, including awards from the INJUVE Chamber Music Competition, Montehermoso Contemporary Creation Award, Savvy Musicians in Action Chamber Music Competition, and the Queens Council for the Arts.
New York City ensemble activity has been held at Queens Theatre, Le Poisson Rouge, DiMenna Center, Spectrum, Flamboyan Theater, New York for Ethical Culture, The Tank Theater, National Opera America Center, Steinway Hall, Cervantes Institute, with other performances in Artisphere Theater, (Washington DC), and Tapp Center (Columbia, South Carolina).

JULIA YANG, CELLO
Julia Yang is a multifaceted performer who hails from Tallahassee, Florida. From 2014–2016, she resided in Miami Beach, where she was a member of the New World Symphony and actively performed as a solo and chamber musician. In 2016, she appeared with the Zaffre String Quartet at Yellow Barn, Banff Chamber Residency, Port Townsend Chamber Music Workshop, and Four Seasons Winter Workshop. Abroad, she recorded in the UK as a member of the 2015 Aldeburgh Strings, and in 2016, the Krzyżowa-Music chamber music workshop broadcast her opening performance on Polish television. Julia has won numerous competitions, including the 2014 New World Symphony Concerto Competition, where she subsequently performed with the orchestra for sold-out concerts during its innovative WALLCAST concert series.
BRIGID COLERIDGE, VIOLIN
Brigid Coleridge is an Australian violinist based currently in New York. Her recital projects, informed by her interests in music, literature and theatre, offer a critical and multidisciplinary engagement with the works she presents. As a soloist and chamber musician, Brigid has performed in major international concert venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall and the Purcell Room. Her appearances as concerto soloist have included the works of Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Shostakovich. She is a frequent recitalist, most recently having completed a recital tour of Holland with her duo partner, pianist Lee Dionne and she has received repeated invitations to perform at Yellow Barn Chamber Music Festival in Vermont USA. Brigid is a founding member of Merz Trio, a piano trio based in New York.
JOSEFINA URRACA, PIANO
Josefina Urraca has participated and performed in piano and chamber music festivals in Italy, Austria, France, England, Germany, United States and Spain. She has received awards in competitions such as the Internatitonal Piano Competition Ciudad de Carlet, National Piano Competition Rotary club, National Piano Competition Ciudad de Linares: Marisa Montiel and National Piano Competition Veguellina de Órbigo. Aside from competitions, Josefina is also recognized as a frequent scholarship recipient. Among the grants are the Caja Madrid Foundation Scholarship, Manhattan School of Music Scholarship, Albéniz Foundation Scholarship, Luís Galvé Foundation Scholarship and Promete Foundation Scholarship.
GUILLERMO LAPORTA, FLUTE
Guillermo Laporta is a soloist, performance designer, producer, curator, as well as founder and artistic director of CreArtBox. Alongside his career as a flutist, he has performed most of the major symphonic and opera works with BBC Concert Orchestra, Asturias Symphony Orchestra, Oviedo Filarmonia, Euskadi Symphony Orchestra. For two seasons, Laporta served as Principal Flute with the Oviedo Filarmonia. Laporta has recorded for labels such as Warner Music, Naxos, and Farao Classic, sharing the stage with world/class musicians such as Sir. Roger Norrington, Andrew Litton, Pablo González, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Truls Mørk, Natalia Gutman, Labèque Sisters, Ainhoa Arteta, Jiri Barta or Heinrich Schiff. He has performed in some of the most recognised European venues, Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall.
